Choosing the Ideal Niche for Your Restaurant

You have the great idea of opening up your own restaurant, but what market of people are you going to cater to? There are a variety of niches to choose from, which should be chosen based on your skills, community and desires. Once you’ve figured this out, you’ll be able to decide where to open your restaurant and what to include on your menu. Check out this list of restaurant niches to determine where you belong:

  • Bakery: You enjoy being in the kitchen, especially baking pastries, breads and cakes. You also don’t mind waking up early in the morning to have these ready for folks who head off to work early. Your menu may also include hot entrees, sandwiches, coffee, wine and beer. A bakery can be opened in a solo location or inside of a strip mall.
  • Coffeehouse: This is another ideal option for early risers. 400 billion cups of coffee are consumed every year around the world. You can get a piece of this pie by opening up your own version of Starbucks. Your joint would be the place to go for morning traffic and those looking for a quick lunch. Most serve up to 500 customers each day!
  • Sandwich shop: Think Subway, but with your own business name hanging on the sign. These tend to have high profit margins, especially in communities with a high focus on health and nutrition. You can have yours set up as a sit-down eatery or a delivery service.
  • Pizzeria: Like with the sandwich shop, you can have your pizzeria set up as delivery only or a sit-down restaurant with menus of various Italian entrees, like spaghetti, lasagna and ziti.

Whichever direction you decide to go with your restaurant, make sure to you buy good quality restaurant gear, such as menus, aprons and kitchen equipment. One great place to find these items for cheap is at Restaurant Discount Warehouse. Look around for the best deals and you’ll be able to get into that niche while sticking to a budget!
